First off, you’re going to need a place to stay. We recommend:

Upscale Stays

  • The Standard (East Village) - popular hotel in a prime downtown location

  • The Williamsburg Hotel (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) - this hotel boasts a rooftop bar inside a fairy light-covered water tower. Need we say more?

  • Library Hotel (Midtown) - located right by lively Bryant Park in the heart of the city and loyal to its library theme, this cozy yet elegant hotel is an excellent choice.

Stays on a Budget

  • The Jane (West Village) - While the rooms are on the small side (be sure to opt for a ‘Captain’s Cabin’ room for an ensuite bathroom!), these affordable yet charming digs are in a great location. Fun fact - the Titanic survivors were housed here in 1912 after the ship’s sinking!

  • Airbnb! Location recommendations:

    • Manhattan - SoHo, West Village, Chelsea

    • Brooklyn - Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Park Slope, Cobble Hill

    • Queens - Long Island City, Astoria

    • Jersey City, NJ (Manhattan is quick and accessible from this trending, family-friendly neighborhood!)

You’ll be able to get around NYC via walking, biking, the subway, and rideshare so a car is not necessary.

Google Maps is your best friend when it comes to taking the subway in NYC. Just plug in your destination, and it will show you the most efficient train route and where to enter/exit the platform! Also, this downloadable map is a great reference when identifying local and express stops. When in doubt, stick to the local trains, and you will be sure to not bypass your stop!

The MYmta app also shows train arrival times if you can’t find the platform clocks.

Train etiquette tip: If you are blocking the subway doors in a crowded car and people are trying to get out, remove yourself from the train, stand right by the doors, and enter again when all have exited.
