I woke up around 7am and decided to grab a croissant from the nearby bakery and walk into town to see the views (especially because I thought it would rain around 12). I love walking around cities in the morning before everyone has woken up, it is so peaceful and that was especially true here in Interlaken.
When I got back to our Hotel/apartment, we got ready and waited for the bus to pick us up to take us paragliding!! The ride up the mountain to our launch site was pretty scary, with narrow winding roads and steep cliffs on either side… but we made it! When we got up to the launch site my palms were VERY sweaty, the girl at the ticket booth had told us it was a very gradual hill you ran down… it was not… it was very steep… and scary hahaha.
Overall paragliding was really cool… the turns made your stomach drop a little bit, but mostly it just felt like gliding across. I enjoyed the views, it was an incredible way to see the city and the lakes.
After we landed in the city center, we decided to take a funicular to the top of one of the peaks in Interlaken to get panoramic views of the city before the rain came. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the top of the peak, including fondue!
We headed back down to the ground as it appeared that a thunderous storm was approaching. When we got to the ground we decided to take a walk to the lake to see the views there, hoping to miss the rain storms.
The rain held out almost all day and never really did more than drizzle… we were very thankful for that! We took the bus back to town, stopping into a few shops before heading back towards the hotel.
We made a pit stop at a bar near our hotel, Barracuda, where I enjoyed a fabulous fresh raspberry purée Moscow mule, and the bartender was incredibly friendly. The bar read more like a local hangout, but they treated us kindly and it was a great choice.
We regrouped in the hotel and headed out to dinner at the Studhouse, where I enjoyed a fabulous dish of Swiss hash browns, bacon, and a fried egg. I also enjoyed a beer made exclusively for the restaurant, which was fantastic. After dinner we headed back to the hotel bar, The 3 Tells for one more drink before calling it a night.
Overall Interlaken is phenomenal and if it isn’t already on your list it really should be now!
